Preview IIII: Elgin vs. Hoffman Estates, 10:30: Alicia Knoll is in her eighth season as head coach at Elgin, which went 11-8-2 in 2018. Jeff Bird is in his fourth year at Hoffman Estates, a 6-15-1 team last spring.

Elgin names to remember: Seniors Emily Graves (midfielder), Guadalupe Sanchez (midfielder) and Hayly Munoz (midfielder); and freshmen Sarah Erickson (defender) and Evelyn Sanchez (midfielder).

Hoffman Estates names to remember: Senior Kati Krogstad (midfielder); junior Josie Roberts (defender); sophomores Avery Panek, (forward), Mia Eberman (midfielder) and Christina Salerno (defender); and freshmen Paige Schneider (goalie) and Samantha Roberts (defender).

Elgin speaks: “We have a young team,” Knoll said. “The goal is to play a well-rounded game with the whole team. Sarah is the workhorse, while Emily does the little things.”

Hoffman Estates speaks: “While we lost two players who tallied a third of the 2018 team-goal total, we have a number of experienced players who are eager to take the opportunity to contribute offensively,” Bird said. “Christa is the catalyst to our team from many stand points. Her speed and skill, along with her soccer IQ has a strong influence on the success of our team. She a strong defender, but can play any position on the pitch with a high level of competence. When she becomes involved in the attack, she is a threat to score and a threat to find the open player.”

Did you know? Bird led Hoffman Estates to 3 wins in 2017, 6 in 2018 and 8 already in 2019.
